Cloud MikroTik controller: operate without exposing sites
A cloud controller moves monitoring, backups and admin sessions to a central platform. Routers stay on-site; operators work from one dashboard. Architecture, security and limits.

The cloud model applied to MikroTik
Instead of joining every customer network (permanent VPN, published admin port), the router joins a centralized management plane. Authentication lives on the platform, not on every public IP.
Customer LAN and WAN roles do not change. Only how you supervise and intervene is industrialized.
Three planes
Customer data plane: business traffic unchanged. Management plane: RouterOS API, collection, backups, access sessions. Operator plane: web/mobile UI, alerts, permissions.
Management plane
Periodic jobs (metrics, health), backup policy, time-boxed Winbox/WebFig sessions. Everything is time-stamped on the platform.
Isolation
Each account only sees its devices. For an MSP, that is the condition to avoid cross-customer mistakes.
Security: gains and responsibilities
Main gain: leave permanent public Winbox behind. Access goes through controlled, often short-lived sessions.
Trade-off: the platform becomes a critical asset (HTTPS, accounts, backup retention). RouterOS still needs strong passwords, unused services off, and planned upgrades.
Routiv in this model
Routiv implements a cloud controller for RouterOS: monitoring, backups, health, topology, LAN scan, alerts, orchestrated remote access, mobile app.
Pilot phase: 3–5 heterogeneous sites, validate ROS v6/v7, then expand. Free trial covers that validation.
FAQ
What is a cloud MikroTik controller?+
A hosted platform that centralizes supervision, backups and admin access for RouterOS devices.
Do I need open ports at the customer?+
The goal is to avoid exposing Winbox/WebFig. Management uses an outbound channel and temporary sessions.
Does config stay on the router?+
Yes. RouterOS remains source of truth; the cloud keeps backups and monitoring metadata.
